The Hellbender is a rather large salamander. Like most of their kind, they have very short legs and a flat body.

Distribution: North America Average Length: 24 inches
The tails of the Hellbender are made to help them propel quickly through water. They have large heads, and small eyes, like most larger salamanders. Growing to an average of 2 feet, the average Hellbender weighs around 4 lbs. The male Hellbender protects the eggs of the female after they are laid.
