The African Forest Elephant is unique in the sense that it has very round ears and is considerably smaller than most other species of elephants.

African Forest Elephants are closely related to the African Bush Elephant but in recent years it has been determined that they are in fact a seperate species. DNA analysis which was not previously available was used to make this determination.
